PETALING JAYA: Police are not expecting any salary issues to arise for the remainder of the current Super League season.
Although finances are tight, Police chief executive officer ASP Mohd Hafiz Zainal Abidin said consistent support from the club’s owners have kept them afloat, and salaries paid.
“Honestly, we are struggling financially, but we are thankful to have owners who are supportive and generous.
“They have never missed (payments), even though it takes some negotiating to get the amount.
“Given the salary issues, the low funds and how much we spend, I would say I am very happy over where the club stand at the moment,” said Hafiz.
Police are currently fifth in the Super League standings with 15 points and will host second place Selangor at the Selayang Stadium on Saturday for their next fixture.
It may feel good to hear compliments on being in the top five, but Hafiz said maintaining their momentum will be tough on the team as their recent form has been inconsistent.
“We are in a good position but we waste points against teams that we should not have lost to. It’s like a yo-yo.
“To maintain the momentum we will need hard work and efficiency from the players and the coaching staff,” he said.
The team’s recent losses came against Pahang last month when they lost 1-5, and a 0-1 to 12th place Kelantan.
But Hafiz also praised the coaching department, as several positive results in big fixtures have contributed to the club’s comfortable position in the table.
Police gave Johor Darul Tazim (JDT) their only blemish so far this season with a 1-1 draw in July, as well as holding Terengganu to 1-1 at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium earlier this month.
Even better, they defeated Kuala Lumpur 2-1 in August, before getting another win against Sabah last month through a single goal.
“Whenever we meet with the coaching staff, they are confident to give us a positive result. I leave it to them to build the team tactically.
“They have given us the best, and we have gotten positive results,” he said.
