PETALING JAYA: Christopher Raj has resigned from his position as the national Under-17 football team manager following their failure to qualify for the 2025 Under-17 Asian Cup.

The youth squad drew 2-2 with Laos on Sunday (Oct 27) to finish second in Group H, and with that they failed to secure their spot in next year’s Under-17 Asian Cup.

In their opening match, Malaysia lost 0-2 to United Arab Emirates, who secured their qualification to the Under-17 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia by finishing top of the group with six points.

Christopher took responsibility for the team’s failure, stating that it was the best move to allow new opportunities for the youth team. “I as the team manager take full responsibility for this failure by resigning as the national Under-17 manager immediately,” said Christopher in a statement.

“Leaving this position as team manager is the best way to open up new opportunities to new faces to take on the responsibility of taking the national team to a higher level until the World Cup mission is achieved.”
