PETALING JAYA: Terengganu need to come out even feistier after the international break if they want to mount a stronger challenge in the Super League and Malaysia Cup.
After defeating Penang 1-0 in the Super League at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak last weekend, centreback Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili rallied his troops to be even better in the upcoming fixtures.
Ubaidullah was the goalscorer in the game against Penang when he scored in the 27th minute to end his team’s six-game winless run in the Super League.
“The last three months have not been easy. In the Super League, we were winless since Aug 21 and finally got a win on Nov 1. So it feels great to finally end that winless run,” said the 20-year-old, who can play as a centreback or leftback.
“It is also nice to get the first win for coach Badrul (Afzan Razali). Since he took over from coach Tomi (Tomislav Steinbruckner), we have worked hard and created chances but weren’t clinical enough.
“Even against Penang, we tried our best to score a lot of goals but what’s important is the fact we ended the game with three points and will use that momentum for the upcoming games.
“Now we are heading into the international break, so for sure we would work on our weaknesses in training and come back with better spirit to ensure we push ourselves to be amongst the top sides in the Super League.
“We also want to do well in the Malaysia Cup as well,” he said.
When asked about his goal against Penang, Ubaidullah said it was a good feeling and he revealed it was his first goal of the current Super League season.
“I’m humbled. A goal and a clean sheet, are good for a defender. After seeing my close friends like Selangor’s Harith (Haiqal Adam Afkar) and JDT’s Feroz (Baharuddin) scoring for their respective clubs, I felt like scoring too and now I can say I am a goalscorer.
“I will use this opportunity to be even better in the future. I am sure it would give me a boost.”
Terengganu are currently fourth in the league with 21 points from 14 matches.
