Wan Rohaimi believes he can put Panthers back in the pink

PETALING JAYA: Penang’s new coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail is aware of the gargantuan task ahead of him but he is willing to take on the challenge of resurrecting the Panthers in the Super League.

It can be a daunting task coaching a team that are currently struggling third from the bottom of the Super League after 14 games.

But he believes in the ability of the players to bounce back through new strategies and plans, especially in the Malaysia Cup competition against Kuching City in the round of 16 next Thursday.

“That’s right, a big challenge awaits me after this and the first match against Kuching City will be the starting point for me,” said the former Terengganu and Kelantan player.

“But this team is no stranger to me because I played for them in 2003 and I was their President’s Cup coach in 2020.

“So when I got this offer, I didn’t have to think long to accept it. I’m positive that with the experience I have, I can bring change to this club.”

The former assistant coach of Kuala Lumpur is on a mission to evaluate the players more closely since he only has about one week to prepare the team against Kuching City.

“I have to use the time I have to get to know the current players first. I hope we can be more compatible to improve all aspects.

“I also know some of the players who have been with me before, but now my job is to work on the shortcomings.”

Wan Rohaimi was roped in by Penang to replace previous coach Akmal Rizal Ahmad Rakhli.
