India hold Harimau Malaya to 1-1 draw in international friendly

PETALING JAYA: India and Malaysia shared the spoils after both nations held each other 1-1 in an international friendly at the Gachabowli Stadium in Hyderabad, India on Monday (Nov 18).

Harimau Malaya got the lead in the 18th minute when Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Sandhu completely misjudged the flight of a long ball, which was then capitalised by playmaker Paulo Josue (pic), who tapped into an empty net.

The home side equalised in the 38th minute when a beautifully flighted corner from winger Brandon Fernandes was finished off by centreback Rahul Bheke with a header.

In the dying minutes of the match, Malaysia could have had the winner but striker Fergus Tierney’s header off a Safawi Rasid cross hit the post in the 92nd minute.

Before flying to India, Malaysia beat Laos 3-1 in Bangkok on Nov 14.
