PETALING JAYA: Are the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) going to get a new-look organisational structure?
By the looks of it, change is imminent as Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim (TMJ) hinted at a new layout for the national football team.
The Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) owner shared a photo of the new organisational structure on his Instagram story, which showed positions such as sports advisor, technical director, head of operations, head coach, director of strategy and insights, and others.
With the recent departures of Kedah head coach Nafuzi Zain and Sabah’s Ong Kim Swee, word is that the two gaffers could be lending their expertise to the national set up soon.
According to sources, Nafuzi is in line to take over the reins of the national Under-23 squad, which is currently under the coaching of Juan Torres Garrido.
For Kim Swee, on the other hand, although the 53-year-old is rumoured to have received offers in Thailand and Indonesia, sources close to the fraternity suggest that Kim Swee will be taking on a role in FAM when the new structure is implemented.
FAM have been under heavy criticism within the fraternity, especially after the Harimau Malaya’s former South Korean head coach Kim Pan-gon resigned abruptly and returned to his home country.
After failing to make it to the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the national squad are now focused on the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers set to take place in February.
But before that, current head coach Pau Marti Vicente will lead the team at the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup from Dec 8-Jan 5.
