PETALING JAYA: Pahang could not make their home advantage count after being held by Selangor 1-1 in the Malaysia Cup round of 16 first-leg game at the Temerloh Stadium on Saturday (Nov 23).

In poor pitch conditions due to torrential downpours, Pahang broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when former Selangor winger Sean Selvaraj scored for the Elephants.

The Red Giants equalised in the 82nd minute thanks to an error from Pahang goalkeeper Zarif Irfan Hashimuddin, who failed to hold on to a header from Croatian midfielder Nikola Jambor off a Safuwan Baharuddin cross.

The second-leg will be held at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Dec 1.

In the other night fixture, Terengganu beat Melaka 4-1 at the Hang Jebat Stadium, with national winger Akhyar starring for them with two goals.

The 25-year-old scored his goals in the 16th and 53rd minute, while the Turtles’ first goal was scored by Safawi Rasid in the eighth minute.

Wingback Alif Zakaria scored the first goal of his career by striking a venomous volley in the 90th minute.

Melaka’s only goal was scored by Ghanaian striker Fusseini Issah in the 56th minute.

The second-leg will be held at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak on Nov 29.

In the evening fixture, Sabah took down Putrajaya Athletic 4-0 at the Cheras Football Stadium.

The second-leg will be held at the Cheras Football Stadium on Nov 27.
