PETALING JAYA: Footballer Ahmad Daniel Hakimi Ahmad Azmil’s fine show in the second half of the game in the Malaysia Cup may be good enough to earn him a place as Perak’s future trumpcard.
The 19-year-old Daniel was featuring for the first time in the first leg of the last 16 round against Kelantan at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak on Saturday and the player fondly known as Kecik Maro scored a goal in the team’s 3-0 win.
The winger was fouled by goalkeeper Fikri Che Soh in the penalty box in the 89th minute and the youngster took the opportunity to score his first goal for the club in the Malaysia Cup by burying the penalty past Fikri.
He had not even played in the MFL Cup or even the first team but only showed his potential in the President Cup.
The youngster in fact, did not show any nerves as he was brave to take on players with his dribbling and even took freekicks for the team when those duties are usually given to the seniors.
“First game, first goal, I guess it was okay,” said the soft-spoken Daniel.
“As a youngster, I have to keep learning and working. But it is nice to finally have a game with the first team. It is moving onwards and upwards for me from here.”
Brazilian striker Clayton Da Silva got the first goal for the Seladang when he finished off a cross from Kyrgyzstani midfielder Adilet Kanybekov with a header in the 22nd minute.
The 29-year-old then turned provider when his cheeky layoff found winger Nur Azfar Fikri, who then placed the ball past Kelantan goalkeeper Fikri.
Coach Yusri Che Lah reminds the players to be on their toes ahead of their second leg at the Manjung Football Stadium on Nov 30.
“It is nice to get a clean sheet after four matches.
The players were energetic,” he said.
“I am however, worried players will take it lightly in the second leg because we have a good advantage. It’s not over yet. We must be even more spirited.
