Kim Swee officially joins Indonesian club Persis as new coach

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Ong Kim Swee is set to coach his first overseas team in his career.

The former national coach has officially been confirmed as Persis Solo trainer, a club that plays in the Liga Satu Indonesia.

Persis, whose president is Kaesang Pangarep, son of former Indonesian president Joko Widodo, are currently 16th in the league after 11 games.

Kim Swee recently announced that he is not extending his stay with Sabah despite being offered a six-month extension by the Rhinos.

He takes over the Persis head coaching job from Milomir Seslija.

Kim Swee becomes the third Malaysia coach to take over an Indonesian club.

In the past, the likes of Irfan Bakti and Raja Isa Raja Ikram used to coach several clubs in the Indonesian League.
