PETALING JAYA: The Super League northern derby proved to be a box office encounter as Penang and Perak battled their way for a 3-3 draw at the City Stadium in Georgetown on Sunday (Jan 12).
Penang took a 3-1 lead in the first half with Australian striker Dylan Wenzel-Halls scoring a hattrick in the 13th, 17th and 33rd minutes.
Argentinian midfielder Luciano Guaycochea drew first blood for Perak in the 22nd minute.
The away side though bounced back in the second half with goals from Brazilian striker Clayton Silva (60th) and Kyrgyzstani midfielder Adilet Kanybekov (67th) to end the tie 3-3.
Perak are eighth in the league with 19 points from 17 matches, while Penang remained 11th with 15 points from 17 games.
Meanwhile, Selangor beat Kuala Lumpur 1-0 in the Super League Klang Valley derby at the Petaling Jaya Stadium.
Cape Verdean winger Alvin Fortes was the hero when he scored in the 63rd minute to give the Red Giants their 12th win of the season.
Selangor are in second with 38 points from 17 matches, while Kuala Lumpur are lying ninth with 17 points from 16 games.
