PETALING JAYA: Winger Alvin Fortes is a man of few words and will let his action do the talking.

The Cape Verdean has become a key man under Selangor coach Katsuhito Kinoshi and proved it yet again by scoring the only goal in Selangor’s 1-0 win against Klang Valley rivals Kuala Lumpur in the Super League at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Sunday.

Since the arrival of Kinoshi, Fortes has been playing as a left winger, and continues to score and assist.

In 27 matches in all competitions, Fortes has scored 15 goals, surpassing teammate and main striker Ronnie Fernandez, who scored 10 goals in 26 games.

Fortes is happy to justify his spot in the team.

“You do not see me talking much as I just want to play my game. The win against Kuala Lumpur was a team effort and it’s nice to see us going on a seven-game winning streak in all competitions under coach Katsuhito,” said Fortes.

“I am not too focused on how many goals to score. I just want to make sure that Selangor continue to grow as a club and be in a good position in the competitions.”

“For now, I’m comfortable in the position that the coach has put me in. My job is to get a good result,” added Fortes, who was formerly with the Feyenoord Academy during his youth days.

Selangor’s next game is against Penang in the Challenge Cup first-leg semi-final match at City Stadium in Georgetown on Jan 19.

Selangor are in second place in the league with 38 points from 17 matches.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur coach Miroslav Kuljanac felt his side deserved at least a point but will now shift their focus on the Asean Club Championship Group B game against Cong An Hanoi at the Cheras Football Stadium on Jan 23.

The Croatian just wants his injured players to be back for the game against the Vietnamese side.

“We had few chances to equalise against Selangor towards the end but luck was not on our side at all and we did not have many players due to injury,” he said.

“Brendan Gan was out due to injury but he should be ready against Hanoi,” said Kuljanac.

Kuala Lumpur are lying ninth with 17 points from 16 games.
