JDT cruise into fourth Malaysia Cup final after Terengganu win


PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) have qualified for their fourth consecutive Malaysia Cup final after defeating Terengganu 2-1, securing a 6-1 aggregate in the two-legged semi-final.

The Southern Tigers completed their victory by beating the Turtles 2-1 in the second leg at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on Saturday (Feb 1).

Brazilian playmaker Heberty Fernandes shone for JDT, scoring two goals in the 32nd and 91st minutes, with the second being a long-range strike from 20 metres.

Terengganu’s only goal came from Nigerian striker Ismaheel Akinade in the 59th minute, as he executed a superb first-timer off a Ubaidullah Samsul Fazili cross.

In the earlier leg, JDT overwhelmed Terengganu 4-0 at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak on Jan 17.
