Cats in purr-suit of more big scalps as they eye top three finish

PETALING JAYA: The Cats have left many of their more illustrious opponents caterwauling in the Super League as they sit third in the standings.

And Kuching City coach Aidil Sharin (pic) wants his charges to keep believing that they can hold their own against the giants in the top flight.

The Singaporean is also proud that many of the local players have stepped up to inspire the team to surprise wins, most recently in the 2-1 stunner over Selangor.

“I always tell the local players they are not kampung boys or second-rate footballers. They have talent and if they apply themselves, they can go far,’’ said Aidil.

“For example, Jimmy (Raymond) is always pushing himself, and is a great example for the other Sarawak boys. He has played for the national team and I hope more can be a part of that set-up soon.”

Kuching have certainly performed beyond expectations this season, where their management only targeted a top eight finish.

They only managed to finish 13th last season, but can now fancy their chances of finishing third if they win their next two games. Kuching have 36 points from 22 matches.

Transforming lives through art, education and sustainability

Having tamed the likes of Selangor, Kuching can go into their next match against champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at the State Stadium in Kuching on April 13 with confidence.

Aidil hopes the fans will throng the stadium and rally his players to another upset.

‘’The players showed hunger and passion to beat Selangor, and that gives us much hope in the next game against JDT. We now want our supporters to play their part in this big game.’’
