MercedesTrophy national final showcases true test of skill and composure

LIM Wee Tet, who emerged the overall champion, and Ken Lee Chee Weng, the first runner-up, were handsomely rewarded for their prowess at the 2023 MercedesTrophy national final, held at Els Club Desaru Coast in Johor.

And, indeed, it proved to be a true test of skill and composure for all the finalists and guests.

With a rich history spanning 33 years, the MercedesTrophy has become a hugely successful amateur golf tournament held in over 60 countries.

And for their good form Lim and Lee will be heading to Germany for the world final in October, courtesy of an all-expenses-paid trip.

Bettina Plangger, vice-president of sales and marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia said of the event: “At Mercedes-Benz, we take immense pride in curating extraordinary experiences for our valued customers, and our prestigious MercedesTrophy stands as a testament to this commitment.

“This event seamlessly blends the worlds of sports and lifestyle, bringing together enthusiasts from all walks of life to celebrate the allure of our luxurious brand through the passion of the game of golf.

“Beyond showcasing the competitive spirit of the sport, the MercedesTrophy creates unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime for our valued customers.”

Lim, for his part, said: “The MercedesTrophy is a tournament I eagerly await each year and registering for it brings me immense joy.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia for ensuring a seamless journey from registration to our time on the greens.

“The organising of this event truly made it a remarkable experience and I am certainly looking forward to competing in the MercedesTrophy 2023 world final in Stuttgart, in October.”

The others winners at the MercedesTrophy 2023 national final were Sim Li Yin, who captured the Drive to the Major prize, and Eugene Sau, who won the grand the lucky draw – an EPOS sportive Chrono watch.

This year’s world final will be held for the first time at the luxurious Der Öschberghof Hotel, situated on the outskirts of the Black Forest, overlooking the Lake of Constance and Switzerland.

It will be staged from Oct 3 to 7, and the two Malaysians will be joined by the winner from the MercedesTrophy national final in Indonesia, to form a three-ball to represent Team South-East Asia at the world final.

The tournament offered numerous prizes and exclusive merchandise, including the EQE 350+ 4MATIC as a hole-in-one prize.

The competition itself comprised four qualifying rounds, with the first held at Forest City Resort in Johor.

The top five winners from each round advanced to the national final.

Handing out the prizes at Els Club was Elaine Hew, general manager of marketing communication at Mercedes-Benz cars, Malaysia & SEA II.
