THE Albatros, they had warned, is a course that can destroy dreams. And the course in Paris seems to have dashed all hopes Olympic first-timer Ashley Lau (pic) may have had.
The Malaysian struggled to keep her ball within the fairways in the penultimate round of the women’s competition at Le Golf National, finishing with a seven-over 79 on the par-72 course.
It was another difficult day for her as the 24-year-old managed a five-over 77 on day two - slumped 27 spots to joint 40th at the half-way stage - although she had had high hopes after her 13th placing with even par 72 on day one.
Ashley had a triple bogey on the second hole and a double bogey on the 16th en route to dropping a total of seven strokes.
With a three-day aggregate of 12-over 228, Ashley looks set to finish outside the top 40 when the field of 60 golfers are done for the day.
Morgane Metraux of Switzerland fired a six-under 66 to lead the second round on Thursday. Metraux held a slender one-shot advantage over China’s Yin Ruoning (65) while Lydia Ko of New Zealand (67) was a further shot back at five-under overall.
