Annual Saujana showdown proves a huge success yet again

THERE was a feeling of great accomplishment in this year’s Saujana President’s Cup.

Played on the championship Palm Course, four members who had never played with one another prior, came together to form a strong team that surprised everyone, including themselves, and won the event.

Comprising Saujana’s Golfer of the Year (2019 & 2022) Fong Chin Loong, Fong Kum Kuan, Thomas Chew and lady player Mi Young Choi, the team tallied 109 stableford points, with three of the best four scores counting.

They swept aside a field that featured 24 teams.

The inclusion of KK Fong after one of the original members of the team pulled out through an emergency proved a timely fit for the champions.

In second place and falling short by two points on 107, Jerome Hong, Datuk Mohd Nafidz, Chang Sin Fei and Doris Cheng settled for the runners-up honours.

In third spot was the team of Datuk Nigel Ng, Kenneth Chin, Kenny Chiam and Jiyeon Choi, who returned with 106 points.

A prize-giving dinner held at the Saujana Hotel had the members indulge in a nice evening of fine dining and music.

Present at the event was chairman Tan Sri Razali Abdul Rahman, who made it back in time from his travels to participate in the golf and to meet up with the members.

In his bon-appetit speech, Razali expressed his happiness to be back and enjoy an evening of fellowship and thanked the members for their support of the club during his absence.

Playing the host, club president Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin presented the prizes. Julie Ng was the winner of the grand lucky draw prize and went home with an Epos timepiece.

The Saujana President’s Cup was launched by the then chairman-cum-president Razali in 2011. Except for the 2020 and 2021 pandemic years, the event has been contested each year.
