PETALING JAYA: Japan’s Mao Saigo got the Maybank Championship off to a stellar start when she went on a birdie blitz at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) yesterday.

The 23-year-old LPGA Tour rookie ended the first round with a nine-under 63, leading a stroke ahead of South Korea’s Ryu Hae-ran who is in second with an eight-under 64.
