Farah Ann takes 11th spot in individual all-around finals


GLASGOW: Farah Ann Abdul Hadi wrapped up Malaysia’s Commonwealth Games artistic gymnastics campaign with a creditable 11th placing in the women’s individual all-around finals at the Hydro.

On Wednesday, the 20-year-old Farah Ann, Malaysia’s lone participant in the competition, managed 51.065 points. She was placed eighth in the vault (13.933 points), 14th in the uneven bars (12.066), 11th in the balance beam (12.100) and 10th in the floor exercise (12.966).

England made a clean sweep of the medals. Claudia Fragapane won the gold with a 56.132 total, followed by Ruby Harrold (55.232) for the silver and Hannah Whelan (54.699) for the bronze.

Fragapane was second in the vault (14.733), fourth in the uneven bars (13.700), seventh in the balance beam (12.966) and first in the floor exercise (14.733).

On Tuesday, the Malaysian women finished eighth in the team event.

England, powered by European champion and double Commonwealth Games gold medallist Rebecca Downie, took top spot with a score of 167.555 points – well ahead of silver medallists Australia (161.646) and bronze medallists Wales (160.095).

The Malaysian team, comprising Farah Ann, Nur Eli Elina Azmi, Tan Ing Yueh and Tracie Ang, managed 144.436 to finish behind Singapore (148.572), South Africa (151.363), Scotland (151.595) and Canada (159.563).

In New Delhi 2010, the Malaysian women finished fourth in the team event.
