Malaysia secure narrow win over South Korea

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia concluded their final round robin match of the Asian Champions Trophy hockey event with a narrow 1-0 victory over South Korea in Chennai on Wednesday (Aug 9).

Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal scored the solitary field goal in the 21st minute to give Malaysia their fourth win in five matches.

The match was academic for Malaysia as they had already booked their place in the semi-finals following a 3-1 win over Japan on Monday (Aug 7).

Malaysia’s only defeat in the round robin stage was against hosts India where the Speedy Tigers lost 0-5 in an earlier match.

In another match on Wednesday, Japan defeated China 2-1.
