PETALING JAYA: Malaysia lost 1-3 to India in the Sultan of Johor Cup tournament on Saturday (Oct 28).
Striker Shahmie Irfan Suhaimi scored for Malaysia in the 13th minute but the Indians bounced back with three goals.
Lalage Aditya Arjun scored in the 28th minute with a field goal, while the other two were scored by Lakra Amandeep (37th) and Rohit Singh (54th).
National coach Amin Rahim said the defeat was a learning process.
"This is a process for our team before the World Cup. We will work on the positives and try to reduce the negatives," he said.
"I know my boys worked hard in the game against India.
He admitted that injuries to key defenders Faris Harizan and Wan Mohd Najmie during the game affected his defence.
"Injuries to Faris and Najmi forced us to play Alfarico (Lance Liau Jr) in defence. It affected our defence a little. We conceded a lot of penalty corners."
Malaysia will next take on Pakistan on Oct 31.
