PETALING JAYA: Faiz Helmi Jali has been thrown a lifeline by national head coach Sarjit Singh as the midfielder is back in the Speedy Tigers squad on attachment.

The midfielder, who has 215 caps, last played for the Tigers during the Asian Olympic Qualifier in Oman in January.

However, 32-year-old Faiz was one of the senior players who was not considered in the new look squad under Sarjit who had focused on building a younger side to mount a challenge at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Sarjit said Faiz had contacted him and requested to rejoin training to prove that he is worthy of a place in the Tigers squad again.

“When I shortlisted players to conduct trials in March, I told the players including Faiz not to give up and continue training as they may get another shot at rejoining the national team,” said Sarjit.

“Faiz contacted me and requested a chance to train with the national team and I have included him on attachment.”
