PETALING JAYA: Malaysia suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Sultan of Johor Cup, after being thrashed by Japan 1-4 at the Johor Hockey Stadium on Sunday (Oct 20).

The side coached by I. Vikneswaran took the lead when Mohd Adam Ashraf Mohd Johari scored in the 35th minute.

But the Japanese juniors fought back through goals from Hyota Yamada (39th), Yuto Higuchi (43rd), Yamato Kawahara (48th) and Koyo Nishida (51st).

Malaysia earlier lost to New Zealand 2-3 on Saturday.

The 12th edition of the Under-21 championship, which runs until Oct 26, also features Australia, Great Britain and India.
