Katrina is ready for action in Le Mans after injury setback

PETALING JAYA: Rising female racer Katrina Ee returns to the track after recovering from a shoulder injury to give it a shot in the IAME Ladies Cup at the historic Le Mans – Circuit de 24 Heures karting circuit this weekend.

The 14-year-old will be competing with UK-based team Premium Karting, as the race in France will be her second visit to the historic Le Mans Circuit.

Katrina had fractured her shoulder and suffered a concussion while karting in July during the Paul Fletcher International (PFi) series in England.

Previously racing in the Junior class at the Le Mans karting track during her first year of racing, Katrina’s Senior class #990 kart now features an eight-kilo engine onboard to bring the total vehicle weight to 150kg.

“I’m very excited to be returning to Le Mans for this edition of the IAME Ladies Cup since my first time racing here back in 2022,” said Katrina.

“The big difference this time is that I will be racing on this track with a bigger engine and more weight compared to the Junior class.”

With a bigger engine and prior experience navigating the Le Mans karting circuit, Katrina is aiming for a better result compared to her previous visit.

“My aim is to finish in the top five on race day.

“Hopefully, if my performance is good enough, I could be racing among the others at the final in Spain,” she said.

The Malaysian racer, born in Hong Kong, is expected to compete against 33 other female racers for the Ladies Cup. The top three winning racers of the IAME Ladies Cup will be invited to participate in the IWF24 – IAME Warrior Final 2024, hosted at the Kartodromo Internacional Lucas Guerrero in Valencia, Spain from Nov 4-9.

The Warrior Final competition roster will also be mixed-gender, pairing the fastest female and male karting racers of the season against each other.

“Thank you to all my supporters, especially my parents for supporting my racing activities,” said Katrina.
