Leona grabs podium finish on GT debut in Shanghai

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian motorsport athlete Leona Chin (pic) celebrated her debut in GT-level endurance racing with a podium finish at the Shanghai Eight Hours Endurance race held at the Shanghai International Circuit.

Competing with Team Z-Speed in the GTC-Porsche category, Leona and her teammates secured an impressive third place finish. The race featured 17 cars across multiple GT categories, including GTC-Porsche, with Leona’s team navigating the challenges of extreme weather conditions as rain poured throughout the day.

Driving a Porsche GT3 Cup car alongside teammates Eric Kwong and Yang Hao Jie, Leona embraced the intensity and excitement of the eight-hour race.

“It was a fun and exciting experience. I was ready to take on the challenge but it was very eventful.

“Learning to control the Porsche GT3 in the rain was a tough but valuable lesson,” said Leona.

She expressed her gratitude to her team and sponsors for their support throughout the race.

The podium finish marks a significant milestone in her career as she continues to excel in endurance racing while overcoming extreme weather challenges.

Leona will compete next in the prestigious Macau GP this November, where she aims to build on her success.
