HI-REV Dream Chaser end 10-year wait with thrilling win in Sepang

PETALING JAYA: The HI-REV Dream Chaser racing team celebrated a long-awaited victory in the Sepang 1000km (S1K) endurance race at the Sepang International Circuit on Sunday.

Despite facing various challenges throughout the race, Dream Chaser’s Suzuki Swift – driven by Hayden Haikal, Rahul Mayer and Daim Hishammudin – claimed the chequered flag with a time of 08’14:25.894 (181 laps), ending a 10-year wait for the title.

Wing Hin Motorsports finished in second in their Toyota Yaris (Wong Yew Choong-Ng Khai Ee) with a time of 08’17:04.484, while Tedco Racing’s Honda FIT (Foo Yung Chieh-Freddie Ang-Yee Kok Jun-Goh Lee Heng) took third place overall, finishing one lap behind the top two teams.

Team principal C.Y. Ong described the victory as meaningful for the team, especially after finishing second last year.

“It feels surreal to win it after 10 long years of trying. We’ve finished second and third several times before, so to finally take the win means a lot to the whole team,” he said.

“It was definitely not easy. We faced many ups and downs today, with numerous mechanical issues.

“Our Swift made contact with a car from the SP2 class early in the race, causing us to lose the headlights. Later, we had problems with the brake pads, and towards the end, sensor issues began affecting our shifting.

“The City also had their share of issues. including brake problems and faulty drive shaft.

“Thankfully, the boys managed to bring home both cars.”
