Fighters Syafiq, Sebastian lose bouts and miss the boat for Olympics

Tough luck: Syafiq Zuber (left) was shown the exit in the quarter-finals of the men’s below 80kg.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will not have representatives in taekwondo at Paris 2024 after Syafiq Zuber and Sebastian Tan failed to reach the finals in their respectively categories at the Asian Olympic Qualifying event in Tai’an, China, from March 15-16.

The last time Malaysia qualified for the Olympics were women’s exponents Elaine Teoh (featherweight) and Che Chew Chan (heavyweight) when they fought in Beijing 2008.
