(Reuters) - Toyota's Kalle Rovanpera moved to the top of the overall standings in Rally Poland on Saturday, 9.4 seconds clear of Hyundai's Andreas Mikkelsen who led after the first day.

Mikkelsen remained 0.5 seconds clear of Rovanpera after the day's first stage, but the Finn overhauled him in a dramatic three-way battle including Britain's Elfyn Evans.

"I tried my best the whole day," Rovanpera said.

"Unfortunately, we have not been fast enough in the beginning of the rally ... I think tomorrow will be tougher than today."

The twice world champion won six out of seven stages on Saturday.

"We had a good stage, I tried," said Mikkelsen. "Was a bit too much in some places, I was in the loose. Was a bit too hard there, it was not efficient. (Position is) good, but we want to be one more position up."
