PETALING JAYA: It's all system go for the Malaysian contingent heading to Paris Olympics.
Diver Bertrand Rhodict and Hangzhou Asian Games gold medallist sailor Nur Shazrin Mohd Latif have been named as the flagbearers when the contigent take part in the march-past in Paris on July 26.
Debutant Bertrand, only 19, will be the fourth Sarawakian to be given the honour after hurdler Kuda Ditta (1964 Tokyo), Bryan Nickson Lomas (2004 Athens) and Pandelela Rinong (2012 London).
Shazrin will be competing in her third Olympic Games and she is the first sailor to have the honour of carrying the Jalur Gemilang.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar from Johor presided over the official flag handing ceremony at the National Palace on Tuesday (July 2) to chef de mission Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin and Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
A total of 25 Malaysian athletes are onboard for Paris Olympics so far with one more to be named as a wildcard recipient from the athletics by this week.
The other athletes who are confirmed so far are Ariana Nur Dania Mohd Zairi, Nurul Azreena Mohd Fazil and Syaqiera Mashayikh (archery); Lee Zii Jia, Goh Jin Wei, Aaron Chia-Soh Woo Yik, M. Thinaah-Pearly Tan and Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei (badminton); Azizulhasni Awang, Mohd Shah Firdaus Sahrom and Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri (track cycling); Nur Aisyah Mohd Zubir (road cycling); Johnathan Wong (shooting); Aniq Kasdan (weightlifting); Nur Dhabitah Sabri (diving); Khairulnizam Afendy (sailing); Gavin Green and Ashley Lau (golf); Tan Rouxin and Khiew Hoe Yean (swimming).
