Sorry Malaysia, says Hannah on Olympic outing

PETALING JAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has apologized for the Malaysian contingent's failure to secure the country's first gold medal.

Hannah, posting on her social media account, expressed her regret but also noted improvements in athletes' performances.

Despite not winning gold, several athletes achieved significant milestones.

Azizulhasni Awang, Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri and Aniq Kasdan set new national records while Mohd Shah Firdaus Sahrom and Syaqiera Mashayikh recorded personal bests.

She also addressed the ongoing discussion about track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang's future, whether he will continue his career or retire.

"The Road to Gold (RTG) committee will support his decision to continue fighting as long as he feels able to do so. But I ask everyone to allow Datuk Azizul some time to rest and discuss with his family first."

Hanneh added that all requests and top-up services requested by stakeholders, coaches, and athletes were fulfilled before the team departed for Paris.

"The RTG committee will meet and obtain technical reports from each team and audit the accounts, and I will present them in Parliament," she added.

"We will address any concerns regarding the 'top-up' services account with full transparency."
