WHENEVER national table tennis player Lim Jing Shuen is stressed, she turns to writing in her diary.

The Federal Territories (FT) player finds keeping a diary helps her manage and process her emotions.

“I cope with pressure by writing it down. It helps me to understand the source of my stress and makes it easier to find solutions,” said the 18-year-old Jing Shuen.

“This practice has taught me to be independent, knowing that I can solve problems on my own without always relying on others.”

She certainly knows how to overcome problems.

Yesterday, she led FT to claim the Malaysia Games (Sukma) crown with a decisive 3-0 victory over Penang in the mixed team final at SJK Chung Hua No. 3 in Kuching.

Tasked with setting the tone for the team as the girls’ singles player, Jing Shuen rose to the occasion and outplayed Amanda Chua Hui Han 11-6, 11-6, 11-1.

Lee Yee Jat-Tan Yi Heng then beat Sia Zheng Xun-Richard Yap Rui Zhen 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8 before Im Jin Zhen-Gan Ai Lis fought hard to beat Marcus Tan Lok Chung-Cindy Ma 9-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 to secure the winning point.

Jing Shuen was pleased with her overall performance and proud to have contributed to her team’s success.

“I am very happy to have won the gold medal. Everyone on the team performed very well,” said Jing Shuen.

“I knew my performance in the first match would affect the mindset of my teammates to a certain extent, so I always aim to start strong to boost my teammates’ confidence.

“My performance has been improving since the first day of the tournament.”

In a thrilling mixed doubles final yesterday, Jing Shuen and her partner, Yi Heng had to settle for silver after going down 11-9, 6-11, 9-11, 11-7, 9-11 to Selangor’s Hun Hui Qi-Lee Yong Yi
