PETALING JAYA: Bryan Ti Kai Jie made a stunning debut in the Asian Wushu Championships, striking the first gold for Malaysia in Macau today.

The 20-year-old exponent got his act right, earning 9.696 points to win the men's nanquan competition at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion.

South Korea's Yun Dong-hae took silver while the bronze went to Vietnam's Nong Van Huu. Both scored 9.690 points but the Korean was awarded the silver on higher technical difficulty.

Bryan was a gold medallist for Melaka in the same event at the recent Malaysia Games (Sukma) wushu competition in Kuching, Sarawak.

The Asian wushu meet is held every four years but the 2020 edition in New Delhi, India was cancelled due to Covid pandemic.
