MILAN (Reuters) - Red Bull Italy SailGP Team was on Thursday unveiled as the 12th and final entry for the 2025 SailGP season.
Led by Jimmy Spithill, the team will make its debut this weekend at the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix. The Italian lineup includes double Olympic gold medallist Ruggero Tita as driver and twice world bronze medallist Giulia Fava as strategist.
Spithill, who serves as the team’s CEO and founder, expressed excitement about the Italian debut. “Italy has immense talent and passionate fans who will support Ruggi and the team,” he said.
“We’ve assembled a fantastic mix of experience and next-generation talent.”
Joining the team are three-time SailGP champion Kyle Langford, who made a surprise move from Australia, and grinders Matteo Celon and Enrico Voltolini, both veterans of America’s Cup racing.
The team’s debut comes after Spithill announced plans to form an Italian team following his departure from the U.S. SailGP Team last year.
Italy is one of two new entries in the global league this season, alongside the Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team.
SailGP CEO Russell Coutts welcomed the addition, noting, “Italy is a proud sailing nation. With Red Bull as a partner, this team will bring Italian fans closer to the action.”
SailGP is an international sailing competition featuring high-speed races in identical F50 foiling catamarans, capable of reaching speeds exceeding 100 km/h. The league pits national teams against each other in a series of regattas held across iconic locations worldwide.
