(Reuters) - The All Blacks have confirmed captain Scott Barrett will miss their opening two Rugby Championship tests against Argentina as he recovers from a finger injury and said Ardie Savea will lead the team in his absence.

Barrett underwent surgery after injuring his finger during the team's 47-5 victory over Fiji in San Diego last month. Codie Taylor and Jordy Barrett will now be vice-captains.

The All Blacks also added Harry Plummer to the squad as cover for Stephen Perofeta, who has a slight injury issue.

After opening their title defence with home matches against the Pumas on Aug. 10 and Aug. 17, New Zealand travel to South Africa for two games against the Springboks on Aug. 31 and Sept. 7.
