Squash: Sivasangari bags gold for Malaysia in Asian Games

S. Sivasangari has followed in Datuk Nicol David's footsteps in becoming the Asian Games squash individual champion.

The Kedah-born player overcame Hong Kong's Chan Sin Yuk 8-11, 15-13, 10-12, 11-9, 12-10 in an energy-sapping 64-minute encounter in the final at HOC Squash Centre on Thursday (Oct 5).

It is the fourth gold medal for Malaysia in the Hangzhou Asian Games.

Nicol bagged a total of five gold medals in individual squash at the Asian Games between 1998 to 2018.

Mohd Syafiq Kamal-Aifa Azman settled for silver in the mixed doubles final after a 10-11, 10-11 defeat to Indian top seeds Harinder Pal Sandhu-Deepika Pallikal Karthik.
