NATIONAL squash player Ng Eain Yow has set a new goal after a fruitful outing at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The reigning Asian Games singles champion Eain Yow, currently ranked No. 18 in the latest world rankings, has set his sights on breaking into the top 10 by next year’s June.
“For this season, I’m aiming to break into the top 10 in the world rankings,” said the 25-year-old Eain Yow.
“I’ve already accomplished my first target in the Asian Games.
“Now, I can focus on improving my rankings, and hopefully I can reach there by May or June next year,” said Eain Yow, who also won the team bronze.
Eain Yow believes that squash is progressing in the right direction in terms of development and is keeping his fingers crossed that it will be featured in future editions of the Olympics.
“I feel that not many people are paying attention to squash since the retirement of Datuk Nicol David (in 2019),” he said.
“Compared to five years ago, it is now easier to follow our games because technology has improved and it puts squash in a good place to qualify for Olympics.
“Nicol had said in one of her interviews that if given a chance, she would trade her eight world titles for an Olympics gold.
“If squash gets included, it will definitely become more popular and attract more funding.
“I hope the International Olympic Committee will consider this matter.”
Eain Yow will take a well-deserved two-day break to celebrate his success with family and friends in Malaysia before heading to Doha to participate in the QSF3 tournament next Wednesday.
He will also compete in the bronze-level Ace Malaysia Squash Cup in Seremban, Negri Sembilan from Nov 6-10.
