PETALING JAYA: Khiew Hoe Yean did not manage to dip under the 1:48 barrier but he at least affirmed his status as the top ranked South-East Asian swimmer in the men’s 200m freestyle at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

The 20-year-old was bidding to go near the existing national mark of 1:47.36s held by former Olympian Welson Sim since 2017 but was only able to clock 1:48.18s to finish fourth in heat 5 yesterday.
