1554 TEENAGER TIEN STUNS MEDVEDEV
American qualifier Learner Tien held his nerve in a battle that lasted four hours and 49 minutes to stun Russian fifth seed Daniil Medvedev, beating him 6-3 7-6(4) 6-7(8) 1-6 7-6(7) and reaching the third of a Grand Slam for the first time.
Tien, 19, will face Frenchman Corentin Moutet next.
1242 PAOLINI EASES PAST ZARAZUA
Last year's French Open and Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini brushed aside Mexico's Renata Zarazua 6-2 6-3 to reach the third round, where the fourth-seeded Italian will face Ukrainian 28th seed Elina Svitolina.

Defending champion Jannik Sinner fought back from a first-set stumble to defeat Australian wildcard Tristan Schoolkate 4-6 6-4 6-1 6-3 and set up a third-round clash with American Marcos Giron.

American former U.S. Open finalist and 19th seed Madison Keys survived a second-set wobble to beat qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse 7-6(1) 2-6 7-5 and reach the third round.

Promising Brazilian 18-year-old Joao Fonseca was knocked out by Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-7(6) 6-3 6-1 3-6 6-3 in the second round, having marked his Grand Slam main draw debut with a straight-sets win over ninth seed Andrey Rublev.

Holger Rune beat Italian Matteo Berrettini 7-6(3) 2-6 6-3 7-6(6) in an absorbing contest at John Cain Arena. Berrettini had the opportunity to take it to five sets but Rune forced a tiebreak and advanced.
"He made it tricky for me and at the end it was a huge battle," Rune said. "Some moments - a lot of tension today because of the score, but it was fun. I enjoyed every moment."

Hungary's Fabian Marozsan beat American 17th seed Frances Tiafoe 6-7(3) 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-1 to move into the third round, producing a stunning display in the final set to advance.

Polish 18th seed Hubert Hurkacz was sent packing by unseeded Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic, who beat the 2024 quarter-finalist 6-4 6-4 6-2.
0208 RADUCANU KNOCKS OUT ANISIMOVA, TO FACE SWIATEK
Emma Raducanu, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, overcame a hip issue to eliminate American Amanda Anisimova in a 6-3 7-5 victory.
It is the first time the 22-year-old Raducanu has progressed to the third round at Melbourne Park. The British player will next face world number two Iga Swiatek.
"I'm loving it. It's another opportunity to test my game ... I think obviously she's (Swiatek) achieved so much already and I think going into it, I have nothing to lose. I'm just going to swing. I'm going to give it my best and I can't wait to play in front of you guys," Raducanu said.

Polish second seed Iga Swiatek, chasing a sixth Grand Slam crown and a first at Melbourne Park, wasted little time in beating Slovak Rebecca Sramkova 6-0 6-2.
Tunisian Ons Jabeur also advanced after defeating Colombian Camila Osorio 7-5 6-3.

Russian ninth seed Daria Kasatkina made light work of unseeded Chinese Wang Yafan, winning 6-2 6-0 to move into the third round.
0022 PLAY BEGINS AT MELBOURNE PARK
Play began on schedule on the fifth day of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park with the temperature hovering around 17 degrees Celsius (62.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
Second seed Iga Swiatek will be in action on Rod Laver Arena later, while defending men's champion Jannik Sinner will take to the court in the evening session.
Italians Jasmine Paolini and Matteo Berrettini are among those playing on the showcourts. Other top seeds on the schedule include Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev.
