Md Shah Othman, the keyboard player of the bands Kembara and Ilusi, passed away around noon on Wednesday (Jan 3). He was 73.
His son-in-law, Nazrul Tahir said that Md Shah died at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru due to complications from gland cancer.
"My father-in-law just passed away at noon today," he told mStar, The Star's Malay-language portal.
Nazrul added that the late musician learnt he had gland cancer just last month after he underwent a thorough examination following a loss of appetite.
"My father-in-law had just received the confirmed cancer diagnosis, not even a month ago. Yesterday he fell ill and was rushed to the hospital. He passed away today," Nazrul said.
According to Nazrul, Md Shah's body would be brought back to his home in Kampung Bendahara before being buried at the Tanah Perkuburan Islam Sungai Danga, Johor Bahru after the Asar prayer.
Md Shah was the keyboard player for the popular 1990s bands Kembara and Ilusi.
The late musician's last performance was at the Kembara Panaroma Jingga: 1444 Hijrah Concert at the Plenary Hall of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) on July 31, 2022.
The Kembara group consists of Datuk M Nasir as the vocalist, Zoul (guitar, singer), Rahman Suri (bass), and Shahrum Basiron (drums).
