GrabPay DuitNow QR provides seamless access to everyday essential and retail needs
MANY of us have embraced online shopping and contactless payments in store as we abide by the strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) and physical distancing.
Echoing this, a Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) report, the volume of ewallet payments have increased by 131% since 2019. Furthermore, it found that the number of merchants who registered for QR code payment acceptance has risen by 164% since 2019, indicating that businesses are accepting for cashless payments.
Meanwhile, Grab – through its in-app wallet GrabPay – recently rolled out the GrabPay DuitNow QR nationwide. Operated by Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet), DuitNow QR is designed to encourage nationwide adoption of cashless payments and the digital economy through the use of an interoperable QR code.
The DuitNow QR would provide consumers a safe, easy payment method for in-store purchases, and give merchants access to the millions of consumers who have adopted the digital-first lifestyle.
According to Grab Malaysia GrabPay head Priyanka Madan, there are many opportunities at Grab to encourage businesses of all sizes to digitalise and embrace digital payments.
“In the past year, we have welcomed a wide variety of merchants to the platform, from small businesses to large nationwide chains and many consumer goods brands.
“We are pleased to be a participant of the DuitNow Real-time Retail Payments Platform (RPP) ecosystem to enable retailers throughout Malaysia to serve Grab users, while consumers themselves will find it even easier to purchase essential items.
“The implementation of the DuitNow QR code is timely considering recent economic shifts and the most critical needs of users and merchants, ” she said.
Is it user friendly?
Grab extolls ease of use as GrabPay users would need to simply launch the Grab app, open the QR scanner and scan any DuitNow QR code to pay.
“We decided to join GrabPay DuitNow QR because we noticed many of our consumers were asking if our store accepted digital payments. Since then, we find that more of my consumers prefer to use GrabPay for their payments, always asking ‘do you accept GrabPay’ because they want to earn their GrabRewards points, ” said Lim Fried Chicken Jordan Lim
Grab user Yeap Lay Sun said: “I started regularly using ewallets to pay for my things due to safety reasons in the midst of the pandemic. Now with more ewallets accepting DuitNow QR, it is now my preferred method to pay, especially in GrabPay Prefered Merchants as I could go in and out of the store quickly and with little to no physical contact.”
