Royal Canin launches fundraising campaign for SPCA Selangor

Pet health nutrition company aims to aid shelter in trying times in two month campaign.

PET health nutrition company Royal Canin is answering the call for help of Selangor animal shelter Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) which has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The shelter – a close partner of Royal Canin – has been active, like other animal shelters and movements, rescuing and accommodating more cats and dogs.

Expenses are on the rise and this encompasses medical coverage and food for the voiceless and furry friends that are housed at the shelter.

"The livelihood of many has been affected and due to the continuous Movement Control Orders (MCO), adoption rates are not as encouraging as before.

“Funds from shelters' contributors are also low," observed Royal Canin’s professional pillar head for the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, Rani Achyar.

Pursuant to the request, Royal Canin embarked on a fund-raising campaign that started from Sep 13 till Oct 31, to reduce the financial burden of SPCA Selangor's operational costs.

Customers can make a contribution between RM5 and RM100, upon checking-out while shopping at the Royal Canin Official Store on Shopee.

"This is our first time raising funds using this particular method. We realise that there are many generous animal lovers out there who are looking for channels to help out shelters and organisations in these hard times.

"SPCA Selangor – which is also our partnered shelter – had approached us to explore the possibility of Royal Canin helping them in fund-raising and this was an opportunity for us to try this out and learn on this journey," added Achyar.

"No amount is too small and what we raise from this would be great enough to support SPCA Selangor. 100% of all donations received through the Royal Canin Official Store on Shopee will be transacted to SPCA every Friday.

“An update on the fund status will be published on the Royal Canin Facebook page on a weekly basis," Achyar committed.

In line with its mission ‘To create a better world for cats and dogs’, Royal Canin's campaign hopes to touch people's hearts to realise the local shelters’ dilemma and spur them to give their best within their means to help SPCA get through this difficult period.

"We feel strongly for the homeless cats and dogs that need us, humans, to survive," Achyar added.

Chairman of SPCA Selangor Christine Chin thanked the Royal Canin management and team for the kind and thoughtful fundraising campaign to support the SPCA's efforts in animal welfare.

"This gesture is very timely and welcoming as it will be a great help especially during current times," she said.

The next time you browse Royal Canin Official Store on Shopee in search of health nutrition for your furkid, spare a thought for fur friends who have sought shelter at a charitable organisation.
