ALMOST 3.9 million Malaysians aged 18 and above are living with diabetes.
That translates to almost one in five of us living with this non-communicable disease.
In light of this and in conjunction with World Diabetes Day, Watsons will be launching its Living Healthy with Diabetic campaign.
This would be a two-part initiative by the brand to assist the nation with prevention and delay diabetes – how to live a healthy lifestyle, and how to continue living with diabetes.
Created in 1991 in response to the growing amount of diabetes by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization, World Diabetes Day became an official United Nations Day in 2006 with the passage of UN Resolution 61/225.
World Diabetes Day falls on Nov 14 annually – the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922.
Arm yourself with information
Leading up to the annual celebration and to educate the nation on diabetes, Watsons together with Star Media Group held a webinar on Living Healthy with Diabetes on Nov 13.
This webinar presented insights into understanding and differentiating facts from myths of diabetes, diagnosis, treatment options and overall healthy living.

Watsons pharmacist Nor Fadhilah Mohammad – who served in hospitals like Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Columbia Asia Hospital – moderated the event.
Meanwhile, Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur consultant endocrinologist Dr Shalini C. Sree Dharan was the speaker, who underwent a fellowship in Diabetes and Endocrinology (Malaysia and the UK).
Diebetic-friendly recipes
Watsons will be hosting a workshop to educate people on what to eat and how to cook diabetic-friendly meals.
Join in the Nutrabliss workshop on Nov 20, 2021, for the opportunity to meet like-minded people and learn a new skill to boot.
Besides that, at RM80 for two pax, bring a friend or loved one along to share the experience. Purchase your tickets here.
Better yet, if you know someone who will benefit from this workshop, gift them this opportunity along with your support.
If you think you cannot eat pancakes, think again. This workshop will teach you exactly how you can whip up a classic breakfast treat with its recipe on high fiber pancakes.
The workshop has carefully curated meals like low-carb zucchini noodles and baked chicken and a Korean favourite with a low-glycemic index (GI) twist – Bibimbap.
