MAJUPERAK Holdings Berhad is intensifying its sustainability efforts with the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at the first government office in Perak – said to offset more than 3,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the environment.

The solar PV system was installed at the complex of Majlis Daerah Perak Tengah (MDPT) in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic in April 2021.

Through Majuperak’s subsidiary, Majuperak-United Solar JV Sdn Bhd (MUJV), a total of 332 solar panels were installed on an area of 1,500sqm on the rooftop of the MDPT building at zero cost to the council.

Following the government’s initiative to boost solar energy consumption and reduce energy cost under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 programme, the solar PV system would be able to generate some 145,000kWh of electricity a year, giving savings of almost RM1.3mil.

Perak Exco for Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun officiated the installation of the solar PV system at the MDPT building in Seri Iskandar and lauded MDPT’s green initiative.

“This is a great landmark for the state. I hope that through this exemplary initiative by MDPT, there will be more collaborations between state-linked companies such as Majuperak and state agencies to realise the state’s wish to drive Perak as a leader in green technology initiatives.”

Present at the visit were Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP) chief executive officer Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak, MDPT Yang DiPertua Mohd Syukri Azaari and Bota State Assemblyman Khairul Shahril Mohamed.

Following the success of this installation work with MDPT, Majuperak is expected to collaborate with more Perak state local councils such as Majlis Daerah Selama, Majlis Daerah Pengkalan Hulu and Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh to install more solar PV systems on their buildings and drive the solar energy efforts of the state.
