DRAWING inspiration from real life, through the highs and lows of the past couple years, Petronas has enlisted award-winning film director Kabir Bhatia to release an original drama series of their own, titled 366.
As this is a completely new format for Petronas, they engaged Kabir Bhatia who has over 26 years of experience in the entertainment industry to craft this artful series.
The Mumbai-born filmmaker has spent the last two decades in Malaysia. Some of his past works include Bisik Pada Langit (2016), Anak Merdeka (2017), Pulang (2018) and Sangkar (2019).
The series is also part and parcel of the overarching Petronas 2022 festive campaign themed “Live Again” which portrays the resilience, fortitude and camaraderie of Malaysians during the trying times of Covid-19.
366 is the story of Malaysians for Malaysians, how individuals managed to overcome uncertainties and that mistakes should not stop us from moving forward and thriving.
The first episode, titled Day 32, follows the life and story of Zhi Yi – a young woman going to her hometown with her mother while having to grapple with a choice of attending a reunion dinner with her father or giving in to her mother’s cryptic request.
With seven episodes in total, one for every major festivity of the year, Petronas is breaking the mould of conventional festive storytelling and working with the local film industry to tell the story of everyday Malaysians.
The seven episodes the public can look forward to are coming out during the following festivities:
> Episode 1: Chinese New Year
> Episode 2: Hari Raya
> Episode 3: Kaamatan
> Episode 4: Gawai
> Episode 5: Merdeka Malaysia Day
> Episode 6: Deepavali
> Episode 7: Season’s Greetings
“This is the year where we Malaysians have to pick ourselves up, get back on our feet and learn to live in the evolving new normal,” said Petronas group strategic communications senior general manager Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz.
“Our intention is to inspire our compatriots to dream a new dream, overcome limitations and past mistakes, and rise and thrive together.
“We at Petronas hope that all Malaysians are excited for what is to come in the Year of the Tiger. Let us take heed that regardless of challenges, we have the strength of the roaring tiger within us.
“We are not alone and through the bonds we forge, they make up all the pieces that complete us as stronger Malaysians.
“We want to highlight the lives of everyday people who continue to thrive, and allow viewers to walk a mile in their shoes in experiencing close-to-home stories of adventure, self-discovery and forgiveness.”
The first episode of 366 is available for viewing on Petronas’ official YouTube channel and Facebook page beginning Jan 30.
