Chart a promising path to success with Sunway University

Fully owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), JCF seeks to receive and administer funds for educational, scientific, medical and charitable purposes, including offering scholarships to all parts of the community. To date, a staggering RM570mil in scholarships has been disbursed.

Sunway University is also passionate about its ongoing research activities. The university now has 15 scientists listed in the top 2% of the most-cited scientists and academics from around the world by US-based Stanford University.
Recently, the number of research papers published by Sunway University researchers has increased impressively, along with the volume of publications included within highly-cited lists. The university also has a number of research collaborations with leading international universities, providing opportunities for students to share research with leading academics from all around the world.
As Research Engagement and Impact pro vice-chancellor Prof Mahendhiran Sanggaran Nair highlighted: “Our researchers are also contributing to national strategic plans and are working with government agencies, industries and community organisations to solve challenges that impact Malaysia and regional economies.”
Aspiring to become the first planetary health-oriented university in the world, the new Sunway Centre for Planetary Health was recently launched at Sunway University. It is spearheaded by the illustrious Prof Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood, a prominent medical professional with over two decades of experience managing health crises in disasters and conflict settings.
She shared an important message: “The climate crisis can no longer be ignored and it is #TimeToMoveUp on creating a healthier planet for a healthier humanity. We are proud that Sunway University is taking this lead in embracing planetary health, demonstrating the university’s visionary thinking and true commitment towards sustainability.”

Sunway Education Group chief executive officer Prof Elizabeth Lee, who was recently awarded with United Nations Women Leadership Award said: “This year, by implementing the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) in Education at the Sunway Education Group for all staff and students, we will empower all Sunwayians to highlight to their friends and families the importance of the SDGs. We will move forward of one mind for the environment, for sustainability, for the future.”

In the near future, Sunway University will add new extended facilities beside the South Quay Lake to house students from School of Arts and the Business School. There will also be an eye-catching performing arts centre.
