TRAVEL is getting disrupted again. First, it was Booking.com and Agoda, then it was AirBnb, now it is the VIP Pass. This has the hotels adapting again as the new disruption takes booking and travel to a new level.
Booking hotel stays on platforms like Booking.com or Agoda is not just easy-to-use and seamless, but users could also compare all the hotels to get the best rates online on one portal.
Then the market became even more competitive with portals like Google and Trivago, where users could up their comparison game, by comparing the same hotel rates listed on Agoda, Booking.com and the hotel direct webpage.
But now comes a new disruption to the industry just for the smart traveler.
The VIP Pass is the travel companion for a traveler that plans ahead and is flexible to access the best deals. This pass is an exclusive member only portal that gives its members free hotel nights that they can redeem for over a span over 24 months.
Better yet, members do not pay for the hotel room nights, but only pay for the member pass that gives them free six room night vouchers.
VIP Passes are limited to locations per pass that are available in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand among others, where members can book and redeem free nights stays at the selected hotels in that area, with more than 100 hotels in an area to choose from.
The VIP Pass sources these hotels deals via partnerships and exclusive offline corporate portals. These rooms are the unsold rooms in the hotels, even the best of hotels are full only 36% of the year. Moreover, for the remainder of the year hotels are only at 50-80% occupancy.
Therefore, instead of dropping their prices drastically to fill up the balance – which might affect their reputation and upset other fully paying customers – these rooms are taken up by VIP Pass members instead.
This works out for the hotels as they get to offload the rooms at low rates that cover their operation cost and VIP Pass can send happy travelers to their hotels who will spend in the restaurants and other outlets.
“The VIP Pass has been an interesting partner to have, as although it started out slow, the the number of bookings we get at some of our hotels now are higher than what we normally get from Traveloka or Expedia,” said Alia Hotels general manager Nabisa Zubir.
This latest disruption is again pushing the traditional institutions to adapt to new technology and booking patterns of consumers. The VIP Pass empowers the traveler who plans for their birthday, anniversaries, or family trips to find unsold rooms in amazing locations and save even more on their trips as they spend less on rooms.
Malaysians can get access to all the perks VIP Pass has to offer for only RM 600 – where members are able to stay in amazing hotels, service apartments and resorts across the country – a win-win for both the hoteliers and the travelers.
