A HOME lift has become a part of modern living, as it increases accessibility, improves safety and promotes a luxury lifestyle of property owners.
A leader of the home lift industry from Sweden – SWIFT Home Lifts Sweden AB – has officially launched their latest product, SWIFT, as they kickstarted a revolution in home living, at the KL Convention Centre during the International Architecture, Interior Design and Building (Archidex) Exhibition 2022.
Department of Occupational, Safety and Health deputy secretary Mohd Yunus Izham, Sweden’s ambassador to Malaysia Joachim Bergstrom, SWIFT Home Lifts Sweden AB founder and chief executive officer Tommy Lowback, SWIFT Home Lifts Sdn Bhd managing director Winson Teh Kean Wei, Business Sweden Malaysia acting country manager Kacper Pierzynowski and The Malaysian-Swedish Business Association (MASBA) administrative manager Abi Thiru graced the launch.
They unveiled a “mini SWIFT glass lift” at the Plenary Theatre, KLCC, as part of the launch gimmick before visiting the exhibition booth to have first-hand experience of the new lift.
“This is a memorable occasion for Malaysia as we unveil a groundbreaking product that will move people more efficiently and elevate daily living to greater heights,” said Teh.
“SWIFT home lifts bring a paradigm shift with its stylish aesthetics, and its customisable design completely transforms the user experience,” he said.
Lowback said SWIFT was launched here as Malaysia represents a big market, while Teh was instrumental in the product development.
“We sent a lift prototype a year ago and got 101 propositions on how to improve the product. Today, 95 suggestions have been implemented in the lift, so it is easy for us to launch this,” he told the audience.
In his congratulatory speech, Bergstrom said: “Home lifts can be a key solution to having the freedom to stay in one’s home – even with challenges such as immobility due to illness or age.
“Being able to remain in the home one is attached to, with some adaptations to fit the changing conditions, can contribute not only to a sense of freedom but also to a longer life, of higher quality,” he said.
Bergstrom shared that “Sweden enjoys a strong bilateral relation with Malaysia. About 100 Swedish companies are present here, and the trade and economic ties between our two countries are thriving. Sweden and Malaysia also appreciate a good dialogue on matters of mutual concern.
“Sustainable development, and the UN SDGs, is one such area. One issue that always comes up is that it is not only possible to combine a strong commitment to sustainability and be economically competitive at the same time, but that sustainability and incorporating the SDGs into the business model can be a forceful part of one’s growth and competitiveness,” he said.
In his speech, Mohd Yunus congratulated Teh, saying that it was the first time that a company is listed in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for its lift.
In his product presentation, Lowback said that lifts should be part of a home and interior design, and that SWIFT incorporates safety features, including an anti-trap system for users.
At the event, MBR chief executive officer Datuk Seri Michael Tio handed over a certificate to Lowback which stated that SWIFT Home Lifts Sdn Bhd is listed in the MBR for having the “First Eco Dynamic Triple Charge Lift System”.
“I have seen that a lot of localisation is involved (for this lift), which is very important (for the Malaysian market), and this is considered knowledge transfer between Malaysia and Sweden,” said Tio.
Tio added that MBR also encourages companies which pursue ESG (environmental, social and governance) goals while innovating their products.
Speaking to The Star later, Teh said that the company has sold 70 SWIFT lifts in Malaysia last year.
He said that the lifts could be customised with glass or metal shaft panels according to the families’ lifestyle requirements and house designs.
More than 90% of the components in the lift are recyclable, which clearly shows that it supports sustainability.
“When there is a power failure, this new lift can still be operated with full load up to 20 times as it is battery operated,” he shared.
“We have recorded RM7mil in revenue by selling three types of our lifts in the past six months this year – we have broken our sales record.
“Of the figure, 70% of our lifts’ sales are from the latest product SWIFT which has been available in the local market since last year,” he revealed.
He elaborated that they expect the sales of the new product (SWIFT) to increase by 20% after the launch.
Teh said the new SWIFT lifts are priced between RM130,000 and RM350,000.
He said the company has sold SWIFT lifts in the Middle East, Thailand and Europe since last year.
“This lift (SWIFT) can accommodate five people, depending on the body size, and the maximum weight is 400kg,” he explained.
“It is suitable for the house with space limitations as our lifts have four sizes ranging from 830mm x 1000mm to 1100mm X 1400mm.”
