OPPO is upping the ante of its Reno series – dubbed the premium mid-range smartphones – with the inclusion of its latest tech innovations in the industry such as the brand’s first self-developed imaging neural processing unit (NPU) MariSilicon X NPU and Dual Sony Flagship Sensors.
According to a Canalys report, OPPO Malaysia ranked second in the smartphone mid- to high-end price segment (US$400 to US$599) with 20% market share in Q1 this year.
With the introduction of the whole new OPPO Reno8 Series 5G – in the latest edition to the Reno series equipped with flagship features – OPPO hopes to increase its market share in this segment.
Since its introduction to the market in 2019, the Reno series was a hit with over a hundred thousand users in the Malaysian market in just two years and was touted to lead the industry during the height of the selfie trend – as the Selfie Expert.
Then, over the years, the Reno series introduced several imaging – photo and video – functions and innovations that effectively improved the selfie experience, including the first ever 60x hybrid zoom, Dual-view video, AI colour mode and AI highlight video.
This switched the Reno series now from being the Selfie Expert to the Portrait Expert, starting with Reno6 – through the combination of algorithm and hardware – it was launched with the bokeh flare portrait effect with DSLR texture for the first time, which further improved in the Reno7 series.
Aside from imaging, the OPPO Reno series also excelled in design. Thanks to its artisanal craftsmanship, exquisite high-end appearance, signature OPPO Glow, and stylish colour schemes, the Reno series has become one of the most trending smartphones around the world, with the Reno7 Pro winning the iF Design Award 2022 for its product design.
And for the first time, the OPPO Reno8 Series 5G incorporated a flagship imaging processor – the MariSilicon X – making it the most premium Reno smartphone to-date.
MariSilicon X Imaging NPU Processor
The MariSilicon X is OPPO’s first self-developed imaging NPU providing an immense level of dedicated computing power to Reno8 Pro’s imaging features, all while consuming even less power.
Same imaging NPU as FindX5 Pro and said to be the world's first 6nm Imaging NPU, this ultra-clear imaging processor brings flagship-grade AI performance to bear for incredible low-light performance.
This beefs up the performance with its 18 Tops AI computing performance that is touted to be superior than other flagship chips.
Night Portraits
Experience great low light videography and photography along with a huge leap in both performance and power efficiency.
Users can now own the night, with the Reno8 5G series running a turbo raw algorithm and AI HDR algorithm achieving clearer and a more natural portrait photo.
It is through this ability to directly process images in the lossless raw domain that the MariSilicon X acts as an unmatched foundation for Reno8 Pro 5G’s ultimate imaging experience.
Dual Sony Flagship camera sensors
Keeping true to its moniker as the Portrait Expert, the front camera has been upgraded to the Sony IMX709 sensors with auto focus features, while the back camera comes equipped with the Sony IMX766 sensors.
Users can boast poster-quality portraits with front and back camera sensors that work together to deliver crisp, clear, colour-rich images.
4K Ultra Night Video
Reno8 Pro 5G unleashes the power of AI Noise Reduction (AINR) algorithms to create clearer and sharper videos, performs lossless real-time 4K AI processing and is making 4K AI HDR Night Video capturing possible on Android phones.
Users also get to experience four times higher clarity than 1080p video.
With OPPO's innovative capabilities and leadership in imaging, the Reno8 Series 5G could be just one of many firsts for the brand in terms of flagship-level smartphones.
