THE Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) organised its flagship International Sourcing Programme (INSP) in conjunction with the 18th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas) 2022.

According to Matrade chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, INSP Mihas 2022 hosted over 400 international buyers from over 50 countries including from the Middle East, Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, Asean, Oceania and African region.

“Last year’s INSP Mihas connected 385 Malaysian companies with 333 international buyers, generating deals worth RM749.1mil for Malaysian exporters and we expect an equally successful outcome this year.

“As such, we highly encourage Malaysian businesses to maximise this tremendous opportunity to expand their export presence into new markets after meeting new buyers and exploring cross-segment collaborations,” said Datuk Mohd Mustafa, adding that for INSP Mihas 2022, Malaysian companies could connect with premium buyers from countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, USA, India and Turkey.

INSP Mihas comprised pre-arranged one-to-one business meetings, both physical and virtual, which facilitated trade deals between international buyers and Malaysian suppliers of halal products and services.

International buyers were seeking to connect with Malaysian companies from the segments that include food and beverages, services and enablers, cosmetics and personal care, modest fashion, food technology, pharmaceuticals, media and recreation, e-commerce, Islamic finance, Muslim-friendly travel, franchise, education and Islamic arts and crafts.

Other products and services include food ingredients, food processing machinery and packaging.

The programme’s hybrid format this year was curated in line with Malaysia’s transition into the endemic phase and subsequent reopening of the country’s international borders.
