PARKINSON’S disease (PD) affects more than 10 million people worldwide, with an estimate of over 20,000 patients in Malaysia.
Knowing this, Monash University Malaysia student, Srivardhini Veeraragavan set out to implement a system that could be used in the diagnosis and severity assessment of PD for her final year undergraduate project.
With the help of her educators at Monash, her work led to the publication of a research paper on how a machine learning technique can be used to diagnose and assess the severity of PD, which could aid medical professionals in better understanding the illness and how to accurately diagnose it.
Srivardhini is currently pursuing her PhD in Edge Intelligent Systems for Eco-Driving Optimization of autonomous vehicles. She is working on improving the Eco-Driving algorithms to lower carbon emissions and energy efficiency with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Edge Systems.
Just like Srivardhini, a Monash education can set you on the path to future career success from day one as its programmes and platforms offer work-integrated learning experiences and engagement with the industry.
