As testament to its success, since entering the Malaysian market in 2014, Xiaomi has opened an impressive total of 80 Xiaomi Authorised Stores, 9 Xiaomi display zones, 157 shop-in-shops and 747 preferred partner programmes.

Making technology accessible to Malaysians

According to leading global market research firm Canalys, Xiaomi topped the list of smartphone vendors with 25% unit share for sell-in shipments in Malaysia for the third quarter of 2022.

How did Xiaomi achieve this?

First off, Xiaomi’s mission has always been to build amazing products with honest prices to let everyone enjoy a better life through innovative technology. This makes it possible for the everyday Malaysian to enjoy enhanced living through innovations and technologies that make life so much easier and convenient.

To this end, Xiaomi’s core strategy of Smartphone x AIoT puts equal emphasis and focus on both the smartphone business and AIoT business – promoting smart interconnectivity of smartphones and other intelligent devices to induce a smart living ecosystem that suits modern lifestyles of today.

This truly lets everyone in Malaysia enjoy a better life through accessible technology and enables Xiaomi to lead the future way of living.

In terms of the smartphone business, Xiaomi also has a “dual brand” strategy to drive growth momentum. Its smartphones offer something for everyone and are optimised with the best of technology as well as user-friendly features at value-for-money price points.

The Xiaomi series of smartphones offers premium smartphones without a luxury price tag – its phones are within reach of the average Malaysian. Besides that, heavy users would also be well pleased with the latest flagship technology available on the phones that allow them to do more.

Its Redmi series boasts of best-in-class performance at a great price-to-performance ratio. This series offers great specs and performance at a truly affordable price for mid-range and light users.

Innovation to push boundaries

Being founded by engineers and designers, Xiaomi unsurprisingly embraces a culture of bold innovation to push the boundaries of what technology can offer.

Over the past two years, Xiaomi already started to dominate the market by introducing 108MP camera capabilities on its flagship smartphones and today, offers this technology to a wider consumer segment with the Redmi Note 11 series.

Another example of this is the new Xiaomi 12T Pro series which is equipped with Malaysia’s first 200MP camera.

It is safe to say that Xiaomi will continue to operate based on its DNA – to offer high price-to-performance ratio products to consumers.

Strong leadership

Behind every successful business is always a strong, capable leader at the helm. The person responsible for Xiaomi’s business in Malaysia and Singapore since 2019 is country director Nicolas Shi, who was directly involved in the growth of the company.

‘The key to Xiaomi’s success is in our people,’ says Xiaomi country director (Malaysia and Singapore) Nicolas Shi.‘The key to Xiaomi’s success is in our people,’ says Xiaomi country director (Malaysia and Singapore) Nicolas Shi.

“When I first became part of the Malaysia team, Xiaomi, from a small player in the industry, grew to achieve 25% market share in merely three years,” says Shi.

“The hurdles and challenges we’ve faced so far have made it all worthwhile. The key to Xiaomi’s success is in our people – my hardworking team members who work tirelessly to realize these achievements and also our Xiaomi fans and business partners in Malaysia who have supported us since day one.

“We hope that you can continue to support us so that we can bring in more amazing products at honest prices.”

The brand’s latest aim is to create quality and reliable customer service experience by elevating Xiaomi’s after-sales services in Malaysia to boost consumer confidence by offering them the support and assistance they need.

In addition, Xiaomi vows to continue to widen its reach by expanding its retail stores to offer its product experience to wider parts of Malaysia and introduce the latest technologies offered at accessible price points.
